Kyanite is a blue gemstone which comes from Nepal. It also comes in Green color these day, but there are very few and rare mines in the World where you can get green kyanite. 

This stone is very soft and because of softness it is very hard to cut this gemstone. Hardness of Kyanite is between 5 and 6. So when we cut the stone, we have to set the hard part on the table so when the stone gets set in the jewellery it get less scratches. Due to its softness, new style cuts are not available on this stone. Only old style & traditional cuts are available for Kyanite. So whenever you want to buy this stone, try to buy it in round, oval and in less sharp edge cuts.

It is very hard to find clean quality of kyanite. Most of the bigger goods are not clean generally. One more thing to make a note of is that ‘There are only few mines of Kyanite in the World, so the overall supply is slow.  This gemstone is usually comes in blue color and looks like blue sapphire. So, some people use Kyanite as the replacement of blue Sapphire.
