Black Spinel Gemstones - Dashrath International Gemstone Learning Library

Today we are giving some information about Spinel gemstones. There are a few members in Spinel family like Red Spinel, Blue Spinel, Purple Spinel, White Spinel and Black Spinel. Here we are talking about Black Spinel.

As you may know that earlier (around 150 or 200 years ago) there was some confusion in recognition with Spinel gemstone and Ruby or Blue Sapphire. It was due to lack of knowledge in recognition of Spinel gemstone. The perfect example of this confusion is ‘The Black Princess Ruby, which is there in the Crown of England’.

Now to move further, Black Spinel is an opaque gemstone and it resembles like Black diamond because it is opaque and black in color. So people tend to use Black Spinel as a substitute of Black Diamond and it costs lesser as well in comparison to Black Diamond.

The hardness of Black Spinel is 7.5 to 8, so it is very easy to cut in any size or shape and it is very easy to set black spinel in the jewellery as well. Black Spinel is available from 1 mm size to 20 mm size very easily. Black Spinel is one of the demanding gemstones in recent time.

The mines of Black Spinel are in India, Sri Lanka and Madagascar. Black Spinel brings very positive energy and it also helps in recovering from illness. It also helps in increasing the self-believe.
